Stifinder Stig #152

At Svanholm Lake in Sdr. Felding, an impressive troll has been built by artist Thomas Dambo and local volunteers. The large wooden troll, "Stifinder Stig," is number 152 in Dambo's series of trolls and is made entirely from recycled materials.

'Stig’s compass has no guiding hand
He wanders freely through the land
For Stig, no path can leave him lost
A smile appears, and it has no cost

When all the world becomes your friend
Even though you leave your home again
When the forest floor’s your bed
An open door is just ahead'

In the summer of 2024, Thomas Dambo, his team, and volunteers built the crawling troll that hides in the forest near Svanholm Lake.

The troll, which gazes out towards the lake, differs from many of Dambo's previous sculptures by not standing upright but instead crawling on its limbs. The construction is unique, as the troll is freely suspended and only supported in a few places, which has challenged the creative team behind it.

The name "Stig Findersti" is inspired by the path that runs around the lake, and the project has been a joint effort, with materials transported on a raft across the lake. The troll is made from recycled wood, as part of Dambo's mission to create art from discarded materials. Dambo, who has built trolls around the world, hopes visitors will take the time to find his hidden creatures and experience the beauty of nature on their journey.
